About Me

Anyone can play the piano, just like anyone can talk. It is easy to learn how to talk by listening to other people and simply copying them. Witnessing my children speak for the first time is incredible. They intently watch every movement of my mouth and listen particularly to the sound and try with all that is within them to mimic me. Some people have a gifted ear and are able to play anything they hear. Others have to work at it and learn through practice. Either way, whether gifted or not, I believe that anyone has a chance to play the piano. Sometimes much work, repetition, and dedication is required. But nonetheless it is not impossible.

I have been teaching piano for over 11 years and love every moment of it. I have had the privilege of teaching so many beautiful students! From four year olds to adults, I have had over 80 students while teaching in San Diego to Orange County. I have taught beginners who are not totally gifted with music and have seen them grow immensely through much hard work. I have also had students who were so gifted in music that I was sweating just trying to keep them challenged! I have had the privilege of watching students graduate high school and pursue their music in college and I have watched many of my students play on worship teams. Amazing to watch these precious gifts of God grow in this unique way!

I was classically trained by the most amazing piano teacher ever. She challenged me more than I expected and through more sweat and tears, produced the best I could be. After high school she trained me how to teach early beginners as I taught piano lessons in Orange County, Ca. Love that woman! In jr high and high school I played many instruments. From clarinet, to tenor saxophone, to the bassoon and more in between. I had the great honor of learning wind instruments (mainly tenor saxophone) from my most beloved teacher Dick Harvey. I was able to learn from that gem for over three years before he passed away. He taught me all I know about Jazz music and even had me play with his big Jazz band when they were playing in town! I was this little jr higher (who was clueless about style! ha) sitting in with a well seasoned group. He was such a sweetie who gave me a chance.

At 15 years old, I was asked to join a band called Godrocket. This was one of the most exciting things that could happen to a 15 year old! We were a christian band that traveled all over Southern California and other states playing music. I played the tenor saxophone and sang on our last album. We had a five piece horn section that rocked. Ha! Well at least it did way back then.

Umm...all I have to say is "why did no one tell me anything about style and actually caring what you look like?!" haha. They were like my family and it was fun for that season of my life.

At the end of high school I began teaching piano lessons and playing piano on the worship team at my church. I love improvising and having the honor of playing worship. This is one of my favorite parts of the piano...playing for the Glory of God! I have played piano on many worship teams, played all over the country, accompanied high school choirs touring Hungary, Germany, and Russia, and I love teaching others how to play worship music! That is going to be a big part of this blog in due time!

Now during this season of my life, I am married and have three beautiful boys and a beautiful little girl who I love more than I can fully express. Every time I had a baby, I took a step back from teaching piano lessons. With four kids of my own I am not taking anymore students, but because I love to teach and absolutely love talking about music, I want to use this season to teach online. I am writing this blog to help anyone who wants to learn or know more about piano. I will have videos, content, and resources available. Please leave me any comments about what could help you or email me if you have any questions. Hope you enjoy what I might have to offer!
